As a nurse, I saw lots of management decisions my intuition told me were wrong, but I didn’t have the tools and knowledge to back up that intuition. A dual MBA/MPH degree gave me those tools. I learned what worked in other industries, with an eye toward applying the lessons to health care. I learned new business language and concepts, while gaining knowledge of new aspects of health care, from prevention to epidemiology.
Being accessible is a precursor for Haas Professors
When my girlfriend and I got engaged, I wanted to tell the story of our journey at a family party. Even though it had nothing to do with class, Professor Cort Worthington spent a lot of time helping me crystallize our story. That’s an example of just how important connections are here. Being accessible is a precursor for Haas professors, not an afterthought.
We’re taking Q@Haas in a more substantive direction right now. For example, I was on a panel discussion examining what it’s like to be LGBT in the workplace. It was great to see so many faculty and administrators join students for the discussion. The dialogue engaged people on how to bring LGBT issues into the classroom as well.
