A native Brazilian, Rodrigo Brumana Moreira received his bachelor's
degree in civil engineering from the Universidade Federal de Uberlandia
in Brazil. He then worked as a branch and project manager at CMC
Engineering & Construction in Brazil before moving to San Francisco,
where he worked in private client services at Bear, Stearns & Co.,
Inc.. At Haas, he and his fiancee, Alessandra, have both gotten
involved in activities that draw on their Latin American background.
Ties to Miami
In my first year, I was co-president of the Latin American Business
Club at Haas. In March of 2003, we arranged the first Haas trip
to Miami, where members of our club met with potential employers.
The understanding of Latin American culture that our club members
had was a key selling point, as was the Haas name.
While I had already been in contact with Lehman Brothers in Miami,
the trip helped strengthen our relationship, which led to my working
there during the summer of 2003.
Family involvement
My fiancee, Alessandra, was also very active in activities at Haas.
I like to say that she brought an international flavor to the Haas
Partners Club, inspiring other international spouses and partners
to get involved as well. As a result of her efforts, the club even
held a panel at Haas' student orientation to address questions from
the international spouses and partners.
Alessandra was very happy with the sense of community at Haas.
It's as if she was in the MBA program as well: she came to all of
our social functions and accompanied me on trips to New York, Miami,
and Barcelona. The only thing she didn't do was attend classes.
