I hear the door close as my wife heads off to work…it must be Monday. I slowly climb out of bed and wander over to my laptop to check my calendar. It looks like another day full of classes, group meetings, club meetings, and career workshops.

It is 6:00 a.m. on Monday morning, and the alarm clock is ringing. I hit the snooze button until 6:30. My husband Siva, who has already been up for two hours, comes into the room and tells me I have to get up. At 7:00 a.m., he comes in, shuts off the alarm, and actually makes me get out of bed.

I wake up early to finish the finance problem set for my 10:30 a.m. class. I might not get cold-called to present, but regardless, working on the set helps me learn the material. I head to campus around 7:30, which is my favorite time of the day. I have my pick of tables in the BofA (Bank of America) forum and begin studying in the peace and quiet.

The alarm goes off at 6:00 a.m. My husband Amit, who is an investment banker, is getting ready for work, so I hit the snooze button on my alarm clock to get a much needed extra fifteen minutes of sleep. I am not a morning person, but today is a busy day at school, so I get out of bed by 6:15 a.m.

9:40 a.m.: I stumble over to my alarm clock and start the day. I am a night owl and still a bit groggy from an early morning flight from the East Coast the day before. After checking a few emails, I shower and grab breakfast, and bike off to class.

On Wednesdays, my wife April and I wake up around 7:00 a.m. April leaves for work, and I take our dog Frankie out for his morning walk around West Berkeley. On the walk, I think about how happy I am, both personally and financially, that April was able to find a job that matches her occupational objectives.

I awake to peace and quiet on Wednesday morning in my in-law studio in North Berkeley, quite a change from the sound of early morning garbage trucks and traffic of New York City.

My alarm goes off at 8:00 a.m. I can tell it is a beautiful day in Berkeley since my room is already filled with sunlight and I can hear the kids playing on the swings at the nursery school across the street. I’m a little slow moving today after helping the Haas soccer team to yet another victory last night, so I take my time making my way to school.

Do not be fooled. Just because classes start at 10:30 a.m., it is not a good idea to wake up at 9:45, with just enough time to shower and make it to class. If I didn’t get a good amount of work done in the morning, I don’t know when I’d ever fit it in. My day usually starts around 8:00 a.m., when I jump on the internet, check emails, and set myself for the day.

I roll out of bed after teasing myself with the snooze button a few times. It’s Thursday. I only have one class today and can taste the coming weekend. I’ll finally spend some time with my wife, who is now used to seeing very little of me. A smile crosses my face and I relax.

It is only 7:30 a.m., and I’m already three-quarters of the way over the Bay Bridge. By this time, I’ve already managed to drag myself out of my San Francisco home and, with the aid of a strong cup of coffee, have woken up enough to complete the first rough draft of my mental “to-do” list.

Throughout the week, the alarm clock at my house goes off at 6:30 a.m. My boyfriend Russ works as a web programmer at a nonprofit in San Francisco, so I try to leave the house with him in the morning and get to Haas by 9:00 to start my “work” day. After a long week of classes and social events, it is hard to head out this early on a Friday, but today I have a busy schedule.

With the busy Haas schedule, I make it a priority to sleep in on Saturdays. I need a day to wake up at 10:00, go out to breakfast with my girlfriend, and relax. We decide to go to the Savor in Noe Valley, my favorite breakfast spot, for warm coffee, eggs, goat cheese, and lox.

“Tofu, don’t forget we need to buy tofu… the firm kind.” My fiancé Josh’s voice breaks into my stupor as I stand on the sidewalk outside Bette’s Oceanview Diner. After a full breakfast, I am steadily slipping into a dangerous food coma, but thankfully, his interjection has reminded me of our mission for the morning.
