Welcome to the Berkeley MBA chat. My name is Jeff and Shobha, Lee and I will be moderating the chat today. Joining us will be Peter Johnson, Director of Admisisons, Stephanie Fujii, Senior Associate Director, Tiffany Grimsley and Cindy Jennings, Assistant Directors. Please send us your questions!
Stephanie_Berkeley
Hi everyone! Welcome to our chat. My name is Stephanie Fujii and I'm the Senior Associate Director of Admissions. Thank you for joining us today!
dave
Anyone know how many openings are left for Round 3 applicants?
Jeff_Moderator
Hi dave, we don't keep a particular # of slots available per round. We typically make a good number of offers in Round 3, comparable, I would say, to Round 2.
RishiM
I read Professor Brad Shaw’s “case against teamwork”, which indicates that individualistic groups are more creative than groups emphasizing on teamwork. Haas emphasizes both on innovation and teamwork, do you think both aspects are achievable at Hass without a compromise on either?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Absolutely. At Haas collaboration is part of the culture and many of the activities you're involved in -- from study groups to case competitions to planning our large student-run conferences. Time and again we hear from corporate recruiters that our graduates are able to join a company and immediately be successful because they understand how to work in teams. We also hear from recruiters that they appreciate the independent thinking and innovative approaches that our students bring -- so I would say that external stakeholders feel that Berkeley MBAs are able to bring both teamwork and innovation without compromising either. I would encourage you to talk to our students and ask them about their experiences with teamwork and leading through innovation at Haas.
Pat
Does anyone happen to have less than two year of work experience?
Jeff_Moderator
We do have applicants and admits with less than 2 years, but by and large, most competitive applicants will have 2-8 years. Our median work experience is 5 years.
MaryK
Good morning, and thank you for hosting this chat. Are you aware of any positive or negative experiences with the MBA Math online course as additional preparation for the Berkeley program? Might scores from a course like this still be considered a few weeks after submission of my application?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Hi MaryK, I have not heard of positive or negative experiences about the course, but we do have applicants who have taken it. Do send us your scores as soon as you have them to make sure that we have that information when we review your file -- obviously the sooner you can get them to us, the better chance there is that we'll be able to consider the information during review.
daniel
Good morning. I will send my official transcript and degree certificate in a sealed envelope of my undergraduate university. I want to know if it is necessary to write my name on the outside of this sealed envelope to help you match these supplemental materials with my online application, or just keep this envelope (sealed by my undergraduate university) original.
Jeff_Moderator
Please keep your envelopes sealed by the university. If you wish to write your name on the outside, that is absolutely fine.
Harsh
what is the minimum GMAT score we should have so that we are eligible for admission?
Lee_Moderator
There is no defined minimum score -- the middle 80% range for applicants admitted last year is 650 to 760.
Nishitha
Good Morning Jeff, Stephanie and Shobha! I would like to know how much of a disadvantage I would have if I choose to apply in the last round this year as compared to the 1st round.
Jeff_Moderator
Hi Nishitha,
zguz
Good morning and thank you for arranging this chat. I would like to know if there is a maximum age to apply to the full time MBA. What is the usual age range?
Lee_Moderator
Hi Zguz. The age range for applicants admitted last year was 24 through 38.
JW
My question is about interviews- I know that it's on an invitation only basis, but how does the scheduling for the interviews work? I'm applying from Korea but I'm going to be in the US during Feb/Mar and if offered the chance to interview would like to visit the Berkeley campus.
Shobha_Moderator
If you are invited to interview, you can make arrangements at that time as to the place.
Nishitha
Good Morning Jeff, Stephanie and Shobha! I would like to know how much of a disadvantage would I have if I choose to apply to the last round this year as compared to the 1st round.
Jeff_Moderator
Hi Nishitha, a strong application is a strong application and every one is read thoroughly by at least 2 readers. A solid application will stand out even in the last round. That said, most of our offers for the year will have been made and there will naturally be fewer offers extended in the last round.
heather
I am making a decision to apply to Haas for the third round this year. It will be the only program to which I apply. It requires more last minute preparation than I would prefer. If I am not admitted and need to re-apply next year is having applied the previous year detrimental in anyway?
Lee_Moderator
Hi Heather. We admit many re-applicants every year, so it is not seen as a detriment.
zguz
Good morning. I would like to know if there is a maximum age to apply to the full time MBA. What is the usual age range?
Shobha_Moderator
There is no maximum age.
sarahm
how strict is the round 3 deadline?
Shobha_Moderator
Deadlines are very strict.
John
For supplemental materials, such as official transcripts, they should be POSTMARKED or RECEIVED by your office by the deadline? For the convenience of your archiving, how should I mark the mail? Just the applicant’s name or the login ID of HAAS online application?
Shobha_Moderator
Applicant's name is fine. Please send the materials as quickly as possible.
Me2
What is the admissions committee looking for in candidates with >6 years of work experience? Also, does age become a limiting factor if you are >33.
Jeff_Moderator
I wouldn't say that age is a factor. With extended work experience, we will be looking at the quality of that experience, has there been solid progression, opportunities to display leadership, teamwork, etc. It is basically the same thing we are looking for in any applicant.
BaronBo
If I retake the GMAT after my application deadline FOR Round 3...will that score be evaluated by the Adcom?
Lee_Moderator
Hi BaronBo. A GMAT taken after the deadline will only be considered if you chose to move your application to the Round which the date of the test makes you eligible for. A test taken between January 31 and March 12 could be considered in Round 4; a test taken after March 12 will not be eligible for consideration. However, if you are [placed on the waitlist, you can submit a later score. See the application instructions for more information.
jp
How strictly do we need to follow the word limit for essays? For example, would 20 words over a 500 word limit essay be acceptable?
Jeff_Moderator
Hi JP, it is important to follow the instructions as closely as possible. In business school and business it is important to be able to present yourself and your ideas succinctly. In the end this is a judgment call you will need to make.
Vyas
Do deadlines apply to supplementary materials such as transcripts or degree certification or are applicants given some extra time for these?
Shobha_Moderator
Please send materials as quickly as possible. You will not be reviewed without them.
Vyas
My university does not provide a duplicate copy of the degree certificate unless the previous one is lost or is mutilated. Instead, they send a document which verifies my qualification. Please advise if I can send this verification document in place of the degree certificate.
Lee_Moderator
Please send whatever document your University supplies in lieu of a degree certificate. If it lists the title of your degree and the date of conferral, it should be adequate.
techMBA
Is it possible to apply in Round 3 for full-time program and Round 2 for evening/weekend program at the same time?
Shobha_Moderator
No. It is not allowed to apply to both programs at the same time.
Divin
The first page of my undergraduate transcript is a 'bonafide student certificate' that states my degree and the period of study. Do I need to send a separate degree certificate also?
Lee_Moderator
If a degree certificate is available, you should send one just to be safe.
Stephanie K
Hi I'm Stephanie applying from Korea, and I was wondering HOW INNOVATIVE you may be in your essays with regard to formats and contents (e.g. can you include pictures? can you have different fonts on a page?
Shobha_Moderator
No, essays are plain text only.
JJill
Hi Jeff, I have a lower GMAT score (mostly due to the quant. section) however I have demonstrated quantitative proficiency in other ways (undergraduate coursework & work experience). Is this going to be a major hurdle for me?
Jeff_Moderator
JJill, it is hard to say specifically. In general, competitive applications do have strong GMATs, but a number of successful applicants have displayed quant skills in work or other education. It is just important to explain the nature of that experience.
Kathryn
What do you think is the defining difference between the HAAS MBA and other programs? Or what sets it apart that would make it our first choice.... other than the great location, fabulous faculty, etc.
Stephanie_Berkeley
The culture and our students make Haas unique. If you haven't already had the chance to connect with current students I would encourage you to reach out to them and ask them why they chose Haas and what stands out about their experiences so far. I would also think about your career goals and whether our general management program and top ranked specialties align with your needs.
dave
Would the admissions committee perceive an applicant's active entrepreneurial project as a negative for admissions? This is based on time requirements outside of the MBA program.
Jeff_Moderator
Absolutely not! Berkeley loves its entrepreneurs and many students explore this area further while studying here. Often applicants will include this as an additional employment.
Sarah
I am interested to hear your opinion of Berkeley's strengths compared to other leading Business Schools
Cindy_Berkeley
Sarah, We have a number of different strengths which are difficult to list quickly in this chat. What I would suggest you do is look at the details on our website regarding specializations that we have -- such as Corporate Social Responsibility, Health Management, Entrepreneurship... These are strengths that I think stand out.
MEL
I have a technical question about the online application: I asked 2 previous supervisors to write recommendations before I realized that Haas prefers a rec. from a current supervisor, which I can also provide. Is it possible to discard a rec. that has already been submitted online so I can replace it with one from my current supervisor? How would I do this?
Lee_Moderator
It is possible to have a submitted recommendation taken out of your application, but it is not usual. If you determine that this is something that you want to do, please email your request to mbaadm@haas.berkeley.edu with identifying information for both yourself and your recommender.
chirag
Hi there! I have forwarded official transcripts from my schools but the degree certificates are only photocopies. Will these do for now or do I need to arrange for attested copies of the degree certificates as well? Thanks.
Shobha_Moderator
We may ask for attested degree certificates later, but we only need attested or official transcripts for review.
Adam
Is it discouraged to submit both letters of recommendation from two individuals within the same organization?
Stephanie_Berkeley
We definitely prefer that one of your letters come from a current or recent supervisor. We often see a second letter from another individual in the same organization who can also provide a more senior perspective (to compare you against your peers) and perhaps add different examples or reinforce strengths cited by your supervisor. It really depends on your situation (if you've spent the bulk of your career at this company, if you have a relatively new supervisor, etc.) The most important thing is that this is the only external perspective we have about your professional accomplishments so you want to be sure to have recommenders who can provide detailed examples of your impact, leadership, progression, etc.
mba5321
Hello - I am taking the GMAT Saturday (Jan 26) I will not have my AWA scores before submitting my application (3rd Round). Can I submit my application with just my Quant and Verbal scores?
Shobha_Moderator
Yes. That is fine.
Freddie
I am interested in Real Estate and Entrepreneurship. Given that I have the option of doing both certificate programs, is it realistic to aim for both. Do students involve in two certificate courses. Also, in which semesters and of which year the certificate programs are carried out.
Cindy_Berkeley
It is possible to pursue two certificates -0 but it would limit your electives to these two areas of focuses.
julien_kervella
Hello; I chose my referees as people who I thought would be best to talk about me. However, English is not their mother tongue and definitely not the language in which they will feel the most confident or wordy to express themselves. How much of a disadvantage do you think this is?
Jeff_Moderator
The admissions committee will take this into account. As long as the information is understandable and compelling, minor grammar or spelling mistakes will not be a negative.
Harsh
is there any percentage requirement that is to be fulfilled in graduation that we are eligible for admission?
Shobha_Moderator
There are no strict requirements.
Freddie
Could you please tell me about the CEO mentoring program that is conducted as part of the real estate program. (There is no information about this on the website)?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Freddie, I would encourage you to contact our Haas Student Ambassadors who can connect you with a current student in the real estate program. They can give you a first-hand account!
John P
Any general words of advice for the essays?
Cindy_Berkeley
My best piece of advice is to be honest and tell us what you really think. Those are the answers that stand out and are authentic.
Nishant
Question regarding the deadline: I plan to submit my application in time for the Jan. 31 deadline. However, my recommenders might not be able to submit their letters of rec. until a few days afterwards. Will I still be considered for Round 3, or will that bump me to the later round?
Shobha_Moderator
You will still be considered in the third round as long as your materials arrive in a timely fashion. You will not be reviewed until they arrive.
Angela
I finished my PBT TOEFL more than 10 days ago, and the score will arrive at Berkeley 3 weeks later. And I am going to submit my application online by Jan. 31. In this way, can I still catch the 3rd round? And what should I do on the application online to let the Admission Officers know about my situation?
Lee_Moderator
If you apply before you have received your score, but your TOEFL was taken before January 31, you may apply for that deadline. Leave the test score box blank but fill in the date. When your file is set up, you will be made "Incomplete" and emailed for the missing information, which you can be provided by email.
Lori
Are we allowed to apply to both the Full-time and EW MBA programs?
Jeff_Moderator
Hi Lori, no applicants need to choose one of the programs to apply to. If you want to switch, you will first need to withdraw your application to the other program.
Hareesh
Hi, this is Hareesh, thanks for helping us in chat room. I was wondering what my chances are in the 3rd round, when compared to 2nd round?
Shobha_Moderator
The third round is approximately equivalent to the second.
Liberty
In regards to the GMAT, if you take it more than once, do you average the scores, or take the highest one?
Jeff_Moderator
Liberty, we take the GMAT with the highest total score.
reza
I am currently living out of the country in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. If granted an interview, would I be able to do an interview from here or do I need to travel to another location?
Shobha_Moderator
Interviews are given by alumni worldwide.
Harsh
when is the new session of rounds starting?
Lee_Moderator
We have two more deadline for the Fall 2008 cycle -- January 31 and March 12. For fall 2009 admission, the application will be available in late Summer of 2008 and the deadlines will range from November 2008 to March 2009.
swetecc
I understand that you'll take the highest GMAT scores, however, why do you ask for two in the application?
Jeff_Moderator
It is a place for someone to place additional scores if they have them. It is not required to fill in both, but we will see the scores when we verify so if you have taken it before, it is not a bad idea to put down a previous score.
jean
Haas has specific questions about the steps taken to learn about the MBA program. Does this imply that a campus visit is an advantage for an applicant? Even an international applicant living in France?
Shobha_Moderator
We do take into account what options are available to different students and consider how you have demonstrated your interest in Haas with what is available to you.
alex
Good morning. I would like to know if I can send in sealed transcripts (translated in English by the British council) but not in a university envelope?
Lee_Moderator
Hi Alex. That should be acceptable, but we can't give a final determination until we see them.
AV
Generally, what qualities are the admissions teams looking for in applicants with less than 2 years of experience?
Cindy_Berkeley
In regards to work exp: Leadership potential, career progression (promotions, increased responsibility).
levity
When it comes to work experience, is there any preference given to applicants who already have management-related experience? Do you have any advice for applicants coming from a different job position, like software programming?
Stephanie_Berkeley
One of the qualities we're looking for is leadership. Having a management role certainly provides leadership experience but we recognize that not everyone has the opportunity to a management position (depends on the industry, company, etc.) If you are not a manager, make sure to emphasize the leadership opportunities you have had -- leading a team or project, driving an initiative, etc. If you are coming from a very technical position, I would also discuss any exposure you've had to business (e.g., sales, marketing, business development, finance, etc.)
Jeff_Moderator
As a reminder, please join Kathryn and Michael, current Berkeley MBA students, in the Ask Students room to learn more about the Berkeley experience from their perspective!
Tolleson
Do we need to submit both a transcript and a degree certificate, or just an official transcript?
Lee_Moderator
If you went to school outside the US, a transcript and degree certificate are usually required except for certain schools that issue US-style transcripts. If you have a specific inquiry, send the details to mbaadm@haas.berkeley.edu.
jean
Is Round 4 much more competitive than Round 3?
Shobha_Moderator
Relatively few offers are made in round 4. Round 3 is preferable.
rahul
Please clarify the transcript requirement...do I need to physically mail the transcripts to Berkeley?
Shobha_Moderator
Yes, we need an official physical copy.
Harsh123
Good Morning Jeff, Lee, Shobha and Stephanie. In the long run I intend to be head an organization which is going to be in the IT domain. Hence, during my research for business schools Haas was a great fit. On the same lines is my question. I understand that there is an Engineering School in Berkley. Are there any initiatives at Haas which link students from Haas and Engineering School in building mock business plans i.e. link the technical ideas from Engg. School and use the learning of Haas students to build a mock start up?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Hi Harsh123, absolutely! We have the Management of Technology program which is an interdisciplinary program between the business school, school of engineering and school of information systems. The program offers cross-listed courses with students from all three graduate programs as well as many opportunities to interact. We also have mixers as part of the Berkeley B-plan competition for exactly this purpose -- to provide a forum for engineers and business students to mingle and form teams to enter the competition.
Maria Laura
What is the lowest GMAT score you would consider?
Shobha_Moderator
There is no minimum GMAT. Please look at our website to see the range of scores of our current students.
Stephanie K
How many days from the deadline of each round are the invitation letters sent out?
Jeff_Moderator
We publish our notification dates as well as our deadlines. Round 1 notifications will go out January 29, Round 2 on March 19, Round 3 on April 30, and Round 4 on May 14.
justdoit
What is the environment among the students?
Tiffany_Berkeley
The environment at Haas is very collegial and collaborative. Sounds like buzz words, I know - but the students here are truly helpful, friendly, engaging and engaged, as well as driven.
haas_hopeful
Hello - How is work experience of 18 + months considered in the admission process? What % of the class would be having >1 and near 2 years work exp.
Shobha_Moderator
The average among our students is five years. Most competitive applicants have at least two.
techMBA
I have a good GMAT score but it is mainly because my quant score was very high, whereas my verbal score is only 32 (65%). However, English is not my native language. Would the low verbal score pose a significant disadvantage?
Cindy_Berkeley
Your GMAT VP is only one small criterion that we are looking at. We will consider the fact that English is not your native language. We will evaluate English skills in other ways such as writing in your essays.
tfurano
Is there a way to ensure that you have received our transcript and GMAT information?
Lee_Moderator
All applicants will be notified if anything is missing from their application via email, or will be told that their application is complete. We are not able to verify the arrival of specific pieces of documentation. As to test scores, we review all files with self-reported scores and verify the official scores later in the admission process.
FEDERICO
how big is the class?
Jeff_Moderator
We have a class size of 240.
Leo
Is the Lester entrepreneurship Center focused only on technology entrepreneurship or does it considers entrepreneurship in other industries?
Tiffany_Berkeley
The Lester Center thinks of entrepreneurship broadly. New ventures come in a variety of areas beyond tech.
ynian
Other schools have only 3 rounds, but Haas has 4 rounds. Is there a specific reason for that? I mean, is round 3 more competitive than the first 2 rounds?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Round 4 tends to be the most competitive actually because by that point we've already made most of our offers of admission. However, we do see strong candidates in Round 4 and do make offers of admission. We added a fourth round a few years ago to even out the volume a bit throughout the cycle and have found that it is worthwhile to continue to offer this round. Also note that every year the level of competitiveness and selectivity depends on the strength of the pool -- in each round and overall.
HB
Hi, I have an admissions related question. What if my former grad school isn't able to send the transcript in by the required date? They tend to be inefficient about this. Is it possible to ask them to fax an unofficial copy or for me to fax and unofficial copy until the official copy arrives a week late?
Lee_Moderator
Hi HB. If your official transcript arrives here within a couple of weeks of the deadline, that should be adequate. Your application will be incomplete until the transcript arrives.
zguz
I have a 2 year-old son; do you think that is very difficult for a mother to study at Berkeley and take care of her child at the same time? Taking into account day care, of course….
Tiffany_Berkeley
The Partner's Club and the Berkeley Parents Network are great resources for parents. We have a strong parent community at Haas that I would encourage you to connect with.
EFK
What’s the lowest GMAT score Berkeley ever admitted? Do I still have a chance to be admitted with a GMAT score of 570? I am ready to undertake a MBA this year and would like to know if I should apply to Berkeley in round 3, assuming I was doing well during previous university time, 6 yrs working experience as I-banker, tech entrepreneur, consultant with good international exposure as well as plenty of community work and involvements.
Cindy_Berkeley
It is rare for us to admit applicants with a GMAT score below 600. Because we look at so many other criteria, it is impossible to determine chances for admissions based purely on a GMAT score.
Neen
I am interested in the MBA MPH Dual degree. How much of an international aspect does it have? Are there classes and internship opportunities looking at international development?
Tiffany_Berkeley
There are many international opportunities at Haas, though I'm not aware of those tied directly to the MBA/MPH program. I can think of a number of MBA/MPH students/alums who have participated in the International Business Development program on health care related projects.
zguz
If I started an MBA in my country, but it is not what I expected and I don’t finish it, can I still apply to apply to your MBA program?
Pete_Berkeley
Zguz, you can, but you will want to explain your decision to do this.
jp
can you point out the school's strongest reasons for applicants interested in entrepreneurship?
Cindy_Berkeley
Lester Center for Entrepreneurship, Two business plan competitions (The Global Social Venture B-plan Competition was created at Haas by our students).
Viv8up
Hi Jeff, the essay question on innovation and creativity asks about a solution that addressed a challenge. Creativity is something out of the box. What is the standard of creativity Haas looking for?
Pete_Berkeley
Viv8Up, this is the sort of question that you need to answer. Part of what we are looking for by asking these questions, is to learn what you define as a creative or innovative solution.
sonnet
Good Morning. I am a single parent who will apply to the full-time program. Could being a single parent impact admissions decisions or predict success within the program?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Good morning sonnet. I don't know if it can predict success within the program. I think the more that you talk to current students to understand the demands of the program, the better you can evaluate your ability to succeed. We do adopt a holistic approach when we evaluate applications, so in regard to the impact on admissions decisions -- we will look at what you have been able to accomplish within the context of being a single parent. We do look at all pieces of your application though so it's difficult to tell how much it will impact the decision. Academics, professional experience, leadership, extracurricular involvement are all very important.
Eric S
Can you tell us what percentage of the offers were given to 3rd round candidates last year?
Pete_Berkeley
EricS, we don't have a fixed percentage of offers for each round in any year, so it is always different. I don't have those numbers at my fingertips, but I'd guess it is in the 30% range. (30% of all offers made in that round).
Shawn
Hello I would like to apply for round 3, but I am afraid that my supplemental material can not catch up the deadline (1/31st) does it matter?
Shobha_Moderator
Material can arrive after the deadline, but you will not be reviewed until all required material has arrived. If it does not arrive in a timely manner you may be pushed to the next round.
Brian
Since I live in New York, I'm trying to plan a visit to the campus. When do you think would be the best day of the week to come to take advantage of the classes and services?
Lee_Moderator
Hi Brian, the lunch and information session programs are the same every day, so I suggest that the best way to time your visit would be based on the availability of classes that fit your interests. For additional information about visiting, contact the Haas Student Ambassadors.
yalehan
How does the Adcom view applicants with non-traditional MBA backgrounds (attorneys)? Are they compared with the general applicant pool or with people with similar backgrounds?
Tiffany_Berkeley
We have many strong applicants from non-traditional backgrounds. In the application process, it is important to highlight the breadth and depth of your experience, not specific accomplishments both at work and in any extra curricular/community activities that you may be involved in. Be sure to demonstrate leadership skills/potential, initiative, and team skills.
PatrickL
I got a pretty high overall score, but it is fairly lopsided (99% verbal, 72% quant). However, I have a very solid background in software and math on both my transcripts and especially in my work experience. Will that make up for my quant score by itself, or would it be advised I make a special note of that in my application?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Since we evaluate quantitative proficiency, you will definitely want to note your undergrad. math courses and work experience in the Supplemental Questions section where we ask how you've demonstrated quant. proficiency.
JJill
Can you provide an approximate percentage of how many accepted candidates are from non-traditional professional backgrounds (not i-banking, consulting, instead nonprofit etc)?
Jeff_Moderator
Our current class of 2009 has students mostly from Consulting, Finance, High Tech, Consumer Products, Banking and Computer-related services. However, we do have a strong representation from other areas (as much as 35%) including Non-profit, government, entertainment, accounting, aerospace, health services, real estate and others.
Nishant
At what point does the official copy of the transcript need to be sent?
Lee_Moderator
Hi Nishant. To avoid any delays in processing your application, please send all official documents to us by the deadline.
Tolleson
If I went to a college in the US, do I need to send in a degree certificate, or is the official transcript enough? I am a bit confused as to what is required for US schools versus international schools.
Shobha_Moderator
US schools only require transcripts.
SukenJ
How soon after submitting the application can we expect to hear back about an interview, and what is the process from there? Thank you.
Pete_Berkeley
SukenJ, as noted in our instructions, interview invitations may be received as soon as two weeks after the submission deadline up to a few days before the response date. Applications are reviewed in random order, so there is no fixed date that we send those invitations.
FEDERICO
I will be in SF soon. I want to visit Berkeley. How can I schedule this?
Shobha_Moderator
Please see the Visits section of our webpage.
dave
Is it detrimental to your application to interview with an alumni in your home state versus visiting campus for the interview?
Pete_Berkeley
Dave, not at all. Interviews with alumni carry the same weight.
Amy
Hi Jeff, My school told me that they can't provide the original degree certification, they told me to copy my original diploma and they will add "Is unmistakable with the principal edition." Please advise me that is it acceptable?
Shobha_Moderator
Yes, this is generally acceptable so long as it is stamped by the school.
betsyt
I am a non-traditional student who does leadership consulting for business schools, non-profits and corporate clients. The number of people I supervise, hours worked in a week varies quite a bit. How can I accurately and honestly communicate that with the online application that only allows 1 response?
Tiffany_Berkeley
There are many ways that you can approach this. I encourage you to contact the admissions office directly to speak with an admissions advisor. The most important thing is that you give the admissions committee a full sense of the breadth and depth of your responsibilities and highlight specific contributions and accomplishments that are specific to you.
Jeff Grosz
Hi. I am interested in nonprofit management and want to learn about the extent of on-campus recruiting opportunities in this sector. Do you have any thoughts or experience around this? Thanks.
Stephanie_Berkeley
We do have students who work for not-for-profits but it's not an industry that has traditionally recruited on campus. Many of our students find opportunities through a number of channels: the center for NFP management, student clubs, the Board Fellows program (you apply to be a board member for a local NFP), etc. Contact our Haas Student Ambassadors and they can connect you with a current student pursuing a career in the not-for-profit sector. You can also reach out to Nora Silver, the Executive Director of the NFP program.
Boston
Will full transcripts of the chat session (both rooms) be available for download later?
Shobha_Moderator
Yes, we will post transcripts of this chat later.
SooJin
Thanks for this opportunity. I'm planning to change my career from CPA / M&A consultant to real estate investor. And my work experience is little bit longer than average. Does it work in a negative way? Additionally, It seems that I will get a pay-cut after graduation because of a career change, considering average compensation statistics of Berkeley MBA. How do you consider this fact?
Pete_Berkeley
SooJin, we do consider whether or not a career change is logical/feasible, and you will want to explain why you seek this change. Beyond that, we don't make admission decisions based on what we think you will earn after graduation, which would be pretty inaccurate in any case.
jessie
With regard to recommendations... I have requested one from my current supervisor and one from a supervisor I had 5 years ago. The reason is that I served in the Peace Corps and felt that my PC supervisor couldn't speak in detail about my work because honestly, once you're out there in the field, you're mostly on your own. Should I address why I made that decision in my application?
Pete_Berkeley
Jessie, we always encourage candidates to explain who they have selected for their recommenders.
Pat
Can international exposure; as in studying abroad (after BA/BS) and internships abroad compensate for work experience? Thanks.
Cindy_Berkeley
Although studying abroad and international internships are significant, I wouldn't say that they compensate for work experience. Most of our students have at least 2 years of professional work experience after college graduation. Experiences such as studying abroad and interning abroad can certainly add to your profile, but we feel that it is important to have students in the classroom who have competitive post-university work experience as well.
sid
What is your policy regarding college seniors that have shown entrepreneurial initiatives through part time endeavors?
Lee_Moderator
We strongly recommend that applicants have at least two years of post-University work experience before beginning the program; most successful applicants have four to five years of experience.
Harsh
is there any separate form that is to be filled for scholarships? How do we get financial aid from Haas?
Pete_Berkeley
Harsh, most of our scholarships are determined at the point of admission and do not require separate applications. There are a few exceptions, like the Maxwell Fellowships, but the vast majority of our scholarship money is determined based on the admission applications. There is no separate Haas Financial Aid Form--we use the federal form, which you can find at fafsa.gov.
Ramesh
What would happen if one of my recommendations is late. My previous manager had agreed to recommend me, but I haven't been able to get in touch with her recently to remind her. Not sure whether she is unavailable due to some emergency.
Lee_Moderator
Your application will be incomplete until all your recommendations have been received, but this should not be a problem unless your recommendation is delayed substantially past the deadline date.
MF
Hi, I come from a management position in the textile industry. How would I compare to students coming from the tech or finance industries?
Cindy_Berkeley
We are looking for applicants from a variety of different industries and functions. So, we would prefer that not all of our students are from finance or tech industries. We are looking for individuals who have senior management potential, and who have demonstrated career progression in their chosen career field.
UA
Hi... Have doctors applied to the Berkeley MBA program in the past?
Cindy_Berkeley
Yes. We have had students who are doctors in the past.
UA
Which aspect of the GMAT score is given more weight by your admissions committee: verbal or quantitative?
Pete_Berkeley
UA, both are considered--we have no formal weighting process.
haas_hopeful
How important is the school of undergraduate study and the scores?
Tiffany_Berkeley
When looking at your prior education and GMAT score, the admissions committee is attempting to assess how well you are likely to perform at Haas, particularly in the first year which is highly quantitative in nature. The school that you attended factors in only in terms of it's known level of rigor and/or grading policies i.e. some schools are known for grade inflation, etc.
Magda
Hello there, how does Berkeley see itself compared from other schools (i.e., Kellogg, MIT, Wharton)? What is one word that differentiates Berkeley the most?
Pete_Berkeley
Magda, there are many ways that our program is different from the schools that you mention, and other ways in which we are similar. This is not something that can be summed up by a word. Visit our web site and look at the information about specialization programs and curriculum for a more complete answer to that question.
APD6G
Is receiving an unsolicited Haas mailing a positive sign or is this simply a general outreach mechanism to promote the school?
Jeff_Moderator
We just recently sent out our Berkeley MBA eNews to everyone on our mailing list, including those who showed interest in Berkeley at fairs and other events. This is completely unrelated to our application review process.
cmorrison
Is there a penalty on writing essays much shorter than the word limit? For instance the career progress is 1,000 words... I could write about 6 years of work experience in 500 words, or I could add a lot of fluff to bring it out to 1,000.
Pete_Berkeley
There is no "penalty" for not using the entire word count, but I've seen a lot of answers that run close to 1000 and have little fluff...
lllincoln
If we are invited to interview, when do you extend the invitations?
Pete_Berkeley
Illincoln, they begin going out a few weeks after the submission deadline and continue up until the week of the response date.
Hareesh
What is the best way to address the first required essay - an example of a situation in which you displayed leadership. Can we talk about multiple situations? Or do we need to talk about a single situation/project?
Tiffany_Berkeley
This is really a determination that you're going to have to make on your own . . . The question is designed for you to speak to one specific example. However, if you feel it important to the explanation of your leadership ability or style, please feel free to include as much information as you deem necessary.
kseth
To what address should we send our official transcripts?
Lee_Moderator
Send all supplemental materials to Full-time MBA Admissions, Haas School of Business, 430 Student Services Bldg #1902, Berkeley, CA 94720-1902.
hikarian
HI, I'd like to know about how important the TOEFL score is. I mean, is it OK if I got 100 iBT or I need higher score on TOEFL? I got 37 on the verbal section. Do I need to refer about why my TOEFL score is low on additional essays?
Pete_Berkeley
Hikarian, there are two answers here. One is that we need to be satisfied that you have sufficient English proficiency, which we measure through a variety of factors including the TOEFL. The second is the level of competition. Although great test scores alone will not get you in, weak test scores could keep you out if we have similar candidates with a stronger profile.
Matt
Regarding the following question: "3. List full-time and part-time jobs held during undergraduate or graduate studies, indicating the employer, job title, employment dates, location, and the number of hours worked per week for each position held prior to the completion of your degree," does the admissions committee wish for us to answer this question even if this information is clearly indicated on our resume?
Lee_Moderator
Hi Matt. Yes, we do want all applicants to answer this question. Most resumes do not include all the information we request, and do include other information which we do not need.
Matt
Guess I am what one would call a "non-traditional" student. I have approximately 5 years of full time work experience, and I am in my fourth year in a director level position with the same organization. I earned my undergraduate degree while working full time on this career path. Would you discourage me from applying because I gained my work experience and educational experience simultaneously?
Pete_Berkeley
Matt, not necessarily; we would look at all of the work experience. The important factors are going to be level of responsibility, what your recommenders tell us about your experience, etc.
tfurano
You mentioned that it was all right to continue an entrepreneurial venture while pursuing an MBA. Many other programs discourage or even restrict outside employment for students in an MBA program. What is your opinion on students working part-time while studying?
Cindy_Berkeley
The first year we really discourage it. There really is no time to work with your core classes and other extracurricular activities. The second year, many students continue working at the company where they interned, etc. If you are interested in starting an entrepreneurial venture there are many resources that you can use at Haas -- Perhaps you could enter the B-plan competition.
Alpesh
Hello. I have a question regarding campus visits. Does the admissions dept. feel that students who have visited the campus are more serious about the program then those that do not? I am planning on visiting the campus but this will be after the deadline due to time constraints with studying for the GMAT and turning in applications. How does admissions feel about this?
Jeff_Moderator
Visiting the campus is great, but not everyone has that opportunity. More to the point, we look to see that you have familiarized yourself with Berkeley and our program and have seriously determined how your goals fit into what our program and services provide.
arkitek
Hi, I received my degree from the University of the Philippines. I have a transcript and a "Certificate of Merit" which conveys the degree awarded and the date. Is this the same as the degree certificate? It looks similar to my diploma.
Lee_Moderator
Hi Arkitek. It sounds like your "Certificate of Merit" is another name for a degree certificate.
ym
Hello. Thank you for arranging this chat. I am very interested in the social responsibility programs at Haas. What would be the most distinctive feature that sets Haas apart from other MBA programs in terms of social responsibility programs?
Stephanie_Berkeley
We have incredibly strong connections with companies -- corporate social responsibility at Haas is one of the strongest programs. We've also just launched a student-run socially responsible investment fund -- the first of its kind at a top business school. Social ventures/entrepreneurship is also strong here, in terms of opportunities for students to learn more and gain experience in this area. Haas is definitely at the forefront. I'd contact the Haas Student Ambassadors and tell them the specific area of social responsibility that you're interested in so that you can connect with a current student.
rmordini
Good morning as well! I was hoping to determine how many applicants are offered an interview?
Pete_Berkeley
Mordini, there is no fixed percentage. We invite the candidates we feel are most likely to be competitive. Historically, it has usually been 25-30% of the total applicant pool.
Eli Zackheim
Are you noticing an increasing percentage of Haas graduates heading into sustainability/green business positions? In looking through BERC and Global Net impact on your website, there seems to be a lot of momentum going that way at Haas. Just wondering if it has translated to the work world at all?
Tiffany_Berkeley
We are certainly seeing a rise in the number of applicants and students with an interest in green businesses. In terms of current students and recent alums, it is perhaps most evident in the number of green entries in our business plan competitions. Certainly, however, the number of students/alums going green is increasing.
Freddie
Do I need to apply to the real estate program separately? When exactly does MBA real estate program start and end.
Stephanie_Berkeley
The real estate certificate is part of the MBA program. You do not need to apply separately.
Brandon
In asking the "greatest accomplishment" question are you looking for one specific work-related problem, or is anything fair game?
Pete_Berkeley
Brandon, anything is fair game, but use good judgment, of course. (Winning the 4th grade science fair probably wouldn't be an impressive answer! ;-)
Me2
is it possible to attend a class before the Jan 31 deadline for Round 3.
Jeff_Moderator
Class visits for the current semester do not start until February 4. They can be scheduled online at http://mba.haas.berkeley.edu/visitation.html#visitclass
apinkert
Are students interested in social entrepreneurship able to take advantage of both the Nonprofit and public leadership program, as well as the offerings through the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship?
Pete_Berkeley
Apinkert, yes--all students have the opportunity to take anything they can schedule. It isn't like a major, where you are locked into one course of study.
ccw_haas_08
If we applied during round 2 (December 11, 2007) when should we expect to hear that our application is under review?
Lee_Moderator
All applications from Round Two have been set up, so you should have received an email by now. If you have not, please contact us at mbaadm@haasberkeley.edu with identifying information and we'll let you know what is happening. You can also check your application status on line.
MF
Hi, what does Haas offer students who wish to pursue an international trade profession (import/export)?
Pete_Berkeley
MF, although we have many courses in international business, including traditional classes and experiential opportunities like IBD, we do not offer specific "import-export" courses.
KIM
I am interested in the MBA/MPH degree and the MBA Health Care Certificate program - not sure yet which route will be best for me. To what extent should I indicate this (and decide which I'm most interested in) in my application?
Cindy_Berkeley
We are looking for candidates who have a clear career focus, and have a good idea of what strengths Berkeley has to offer in this focus to help them successfully pursue their goals. I would certainly indicate your focus in health management and that you are considering both of these programs.
KIM
I accidentally sent my undergraduate transcript directly to your office (before I read about the Supplementary form). Will it be held on file for my application, or do I need to get another official transcript from my school and send it from me, with the supplementary form? Thanks!
Lee_Moderator
All transcripts that come to our office are kept and matched with applications. If you receive an incomplete notice, let us know that the transcript arrived directly from your school.
Boston
I have over 11 years of post-college work experience. Would I be a good fit with the 2-year MBA students, or should I focus on applying to mid-career programs?
Pete_Berkeley
Boston, that depends on what you are looking for in the MBA program. Are you staying in the same field or switching careers? What skills or knowledge are you trying to gain? What would the impact be of stepping out of your current profession for 2 years? These are important questions to think about in determining this fit.
Nidhi
I have only a year’s exp. It seems Haas Berkley gives preference to applicants having more at least 3 years experience. When you have so many other programs like executive MBA, evening MBA and others which are specifically meant for applicants who are in a job or who do have work experience, why this preference in Full-time MBA to candidates with at least three years work exp.
Stephanie_Berkeley
Hi Nidhi. The Berkeley MBA program is one of the smaller programs out there -- only 240 students per class. Because of this, it's very important that every student who comes to Haas is able to contribute meaningfully inside and outside of the classroom. We have found that the candidates who have richer work experience in terms of progression, level of responsibility, leadership, impact -- tend to have a few more years of experience. Again, we're not specifically looking at quantity, rather what have you been able to achieve over the course of your career. I also think that you get more out of our program when you've had a bit more experience to draw upon.
techMBA
Is it possible to start as a full-time student and switch to weekend MBA program half way through?
Cindy_Berkeley
This can be done on a very limited basis. There is no guarantee that there will be spots available. There is an application process involved.
SooJin
Even though I have a GMAT score of 700, my friends (who are MBA students now) says that I have to take test again to get a better score because international candidates have to compete in separate group first, and usually oriental candidates have good scores. Is it true? And second question is... how is the score considered? I mean... does it work just as a threshold, or considered one of factors for weighted average?
Tiffany_Berkeley
Please note that a high score on the GMAT will not guarantee admission to The Berkeley MBA program. We use the GMAT score in combination with your academic record to ascertain how well you are likely to perform in classes at Haas. We are also looking to your professional experience, skill sets, goals, and individual characteristics to assess if you are ready for b-school and if this is the right school for you. Don't focus on the GMAT to the exclusion of other parts of your application; each is important in the admissions process.
haas_hopeful
I have near 2 years experience in energy, utilities and mining consulting. Would that be viewed as adequate post-university work experience? I am assessing if I have adequate work experience to consider applying to Haas...
Pete_Berkeley
haashopeful, we have offered admission to candidates with two years. The important issue is not the length of time, but the level of responsibility and career progression.
techMBA
I took GMAT twice. The first time a computer error occurred and I was given less time to complete the exam. GMAC allowed me to retake the exam free of charge. You said you would look at both scores. Should I explain why I got a low score the first time somewhere in my application?
Lee_Moderator
It would be fine to explain this (or any other really odd circumstance) in your optional essay.
justdoit
What is the teaching style – i.e.: case study, lecture, hands on experience
Cindy_Berkeley
It's a little bit of everything. The percentage depends on the class. In general, about 1/3 case study, 1/3 lecture and 1/3 group project.
SukenJ
Can you talk about the on-campus interview process and when that would be for R3 applicants? Thank you
Stephanie_Berkeley
Hi Suken! We will begin sending out interview invitations for Round 3 anywhere from 4 - 6 weeks after the submission deadline. If you receive an invitation, you will be able to select where you would like to interview -- in your city or on campus. Both interviews are treated equally so you should really select the option that best meets your needs (more convenient to interview in your city vs. opportunity to visit campus).
Kazz
Hi..Please advise the way of making up my weak GPA.
Pete_Berkeley
Kazz, this is the most difficult issue to address, since you can't go back. If you have a lower GPA, it's absolutely critical that every other piece of your application be strong.
FEDERICO
I understand the class is composed of 240 students. But how many apply each year?
Jeff_Moderator
Last year we had 3270 people apply, which was up by about 20% from the previous year. We are currently on pace for last year's level and do not have published numbers on the amount of applications received so far.
tfurano
You said you encourage candidates to explain who they have selected for their recommenders. Where should we do this? Perhaps in the Optional Essays?
Tiffany_Berkeley
There is a question in the application that asks you to explain if you are not providing a letter from your current supervisor; that space may be used to identify your recommenders. You may also use the optional essay.
jason
Do you also look at our p/t/ and f/t jobs and compare them to the ones we have had after graduation to evaluate our progression of our professional experience? Thanks.
Cindy_Berkeley
We do ask you to list your p/t and f/t work experience prior to graduating from college. However, we find that most of the time there is little opportunity for real career progression in these positions. We certainly focus more heavily on your career progression during your post-university exp.
davea
how can we verify if our GMAT scores were sent to you? I marked down HAAS as one of the schools for my scores to be sent
Lee_Moderator
Hi Davea, we review all files with self-reported scores and verify them later in the admission process, and we do not have the time to check for whether we have been sent a particular score. We know that the system is not perfect, so if we try to verify a score and find that we cannot, we will contact you and allow time for you to get matters straightened out.
Robert T
how many JD/MBA students apply? Are they read any differently?
Pete_Berkeley
RobertT, we usually have 20-40 joint degree apps in a given year. They are not read differently, but keep in mind that admission reviews are separate. (i.e. we make a decision, and the Law School makes a decision--they are not connected).
Arun K
Hi, I was wondering whether Haas students have opportunities to interact with staff and students from the Energy Resources Group and Dr. Kammen's Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL). If so, what form do these interactions normally take?
Pete_Berkeley
ArunK, yes, of course. Some of the founding members of that group were Haas School faculty. I can't speak specifically to Dr. Kammen's course, though. I'd suggest that you contact BERC for an answer to that question.
Brian
I live in New York City and I'm planning a visit to the campus. Which is the best day of the week to come that would allow me to take advantage of the classes and services?
Cindy_Berkeley
I would come any day M-Th. and take advantage of visiting a class (there are no classes on Fri), attending an info session and having lunch with a student.
Sanja
How are applicants from the government and non-profit sector perceived by ad com? My concern is that my quant. background will not shine as much as someone who comes from the financial services sector - which is to be expected because I worked on legislative initiatives. Will scoring in the 66 percentile on quant. hurt me or will the ad com consider that I haven't done much algebra in the past 5 years?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Hi Sanja. In looking at quantitative proficiency, we are trying to assess whether you will be successful academically in our program. In order to make this evaluation, we do look at your GMAT quant sub-score as well as any undergrad math courses you've taken and any work experience you may have that demonstrates quant skills. If you are weak in one of these areas (e.g., GMAT) you will need to be stronger in other areas (e.g., classes, work) in order to demonstrate ability.
Angela
My reference letters were signed by the reference but did not seal it in an envelope. I am afraid it is a little late to ask them to send me the letter with a sealed envelope. In this way, can I just ask them to complete the 1RecForm for me and I attach their signed reference paper to Berkeley?
Cindy_Berkeley
I would contact the admissions office directly to discuss your situation - 510-642-1405
Mark T
Do ALL transcripts need to be submitted for graduate work, regardless of the duration of study (i.e., I attended Loyola Marymount University for a semester as part of a Teach For America requirement, but did not complete a degree)?
Lee_Moderator
If you attended a school and feel that your work there was significant, please send a transcript. If any of the courses you took at that school were quantitative, please include a transcript. If the units were transferred to your main school, and the courses were not quantitative, you do not need to include a transcript, but list the school and check the "transcript not needed" box.
Robert T
in terms of GMAT, I have been historically a very poor multiple choice test taker. I have a really high GPA from my Berkeley undergrad. Other parts of the app. are quite strong. I'm also a current law student and plan to document low test scores.
Pete_Berkeley
RobertT, how much this affects your application will depend on how weak your scores are and who else you are competing with in the application pool.
UA
I am a doctor fresh out of medical school. I have little work experience in the business or management sector. Will this influence my application to Berkeley MBA, as I wish to pursue a career in healthcare management?
Cindy_Berkeley
We do have a number of non-traditional applicants who apply to the Berkeley MBA program without typical bus exp. This adds to the diversity of the class. What is important for your app is being able to demonstrate career progression, leadership, senior mgt potential; as well as solid reasons for an MBA, and clear career focus. Hope this helps.
justdoit
What do you consider the best feature of the Haas Program?
Tiffany_Berkeley
Great question! The Berkeley MBA program is rich in it's diversity of course offerings, centers for excellence, student clubs/activities, conferences and competitions. For me, the best feature is the flexibility of the program that allows each students to pursue his/her own path.
KIM
I was born and raised in California and worked there for three years before moving to Washington DC, where I've been for 2 years. What are the rules around residency? My family is all still in CA.... I’m wondering if there is a way to obtain residency status if accepted.
Lee_Moderator
Residency questions must all go through the University's residency office -- their website is http://ib.berkeley.edu/student/grad/curriculum/residency.php
justdoit
I am from India and I cannot visit Haas. Can Adcom help me talk to current students over telephone?
Tiffany_Berkeley
You may contact our Haas Student Ambassadors at hsa@haas.berkeley.edu or 1-510-642-5610. You may also visit the student room on this chat.
daniel
On your website, Berkeley says that “Letters of recommendation from co-workers, someone you have supervised, relatives, or personal and family friends are inappropriate and can be detrimental to the review of your application.” For me, one of my recommendations is from my partner and also my direct supervisor—CEO because I am a partner and VP of this start-up. So I want to know if the recommendation from CEO, my partner and direct supervisor, will be negative for my application.
Stephanie_Berkeley
In this case, it makes sense that you would submit a letter of recommendation from your business partner who is also the CEO of the organization and your direct supervisor.
Harsh123
Hello, how much of a role do academics play in the application process? I have an above average performance in my BE. Since then I have done well in my 6 years of my professional career both technically as well as a leader. I have a GMAT score which has a split of 94% Quant and 75% Verbal. So will my academics have a major impact in the review process? Is there something that you recommend that I add in my application to overcome my academic performance?
Pete_Berkeley
Every application has a mixture of strengths and weaknesses. Prior academic performance and test scores are always a significant consideration, and you should keep in mind the level of competition. We make decisions based on the entire profile, including all of the things that you mentioned, and different candidates have different strengths and weaknesses. Other than to encourage you to consider our middle 80% ranges. There is no definitive answer to that question.
Harsh123
How hard is the competition for someone from a Tech background trying to make it to Haas? How many applicants come from a Tech background and what percentage of a Haas MBA class are students from Tech Backgrounds?
Cindy_Berkeley
I don't have exact numbers, I'm afraid. We do have a number of students who come from a technology background. Many are attracted to our MOT program and strong tech focus. Applying to the Berkeley MBA Program is competitive whether someone is from a tech or finance background. We are looking for applicants who are able to demonstrate solid career progression to date and could add value to the classroom.
Divin
how do you convert percentage GPA in the 4 point scale?
Lee_Moderator
If your school does not grade on a 4.0 scale, do not attempt to calculate a GPA. Our evaluators are skilled at comparing various grading systems.
nancy
Hi. I wanted to know if there is a limit or suggested length for the Job Responsibilities/Key Accomplishments answer to the Career section of the application?
Tiffany_Berkeley
You can think of the employment section of the application as a supplement to your resume. Give us as much information as you believe necessary to help the admissions committee understand your professional accomplishments, contributions, responsibilities, skill sets . . .
sonnet
I am a re-entry student (resuming an undergraduate education after 25) yet I have 8 years of progressive professional and entrepreneurial experience that pre-dates my undergraduate education. I would like to apply to the MBA program so that I can attend directly after completing my BA, however, I will not have the actual degree until May 2008. Must I wait until after the degree is complete and apply for 2009?
Pete_Berkeley
Sonnet, your chances are likely to be better. Although we will consider prior experience, remember that it is the quality of the experience--level of responsibility, duties, etc. that is important. Given the level of competition in our process, I think it's unlikely that someone still completing their degree (even under your slightly unusual circumstances) would be offered a place prior to the completion of the UG program.
Kathryn
If accepted to Haas, could I then apply to the public policy school before starting at Berkeley or after I've started at Haas?
Stephanie_Berkeley
We do not have a formal joint program with the school of public policy. As a student at Haas you are able to take a certain number of courses outside of the business school -- and many students have taken courses at the Goldman School. Just know that it is very difficult to obtain approval to pursue a dual degree if there is not a formal program in place.
Viv8up
Can you please elaborate on the incubation centre if some entrepreneur wants to start his company?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Viv8up, students/teams apply for space at the incubation center when they have a clear business that they want to pursue. There is more information on the website under the Lester Center and you can also email the Haas Student Ambassadors to connect with current students who are in the center.
Robert T
Are the optional essays, in particular the achievement essay, read in conjunction to the rest of the application to determine the candidate's competitiveness?
Tiffany_Berkeley
The optional essays are not considered in determining admission to the program.
Adam
What is considered a gap in employment that you would want to know about? More than a month or anytime at all?
Stephanie_Berkeley
Adam, it's safe to say that any question you think the Admissions committee may ask, you should answer.....
Stephanie_Berkeley
Thank you all for joining us today! Good luck with your applications-- we look forward to reading them!
